The holiday season has officially wrapped up, and it’s time to set your sights on the upcoming year. With a new year comes a fresh start, and new chances to improve.
But did you know, about 1/4th of people give up their resolutions after one week, and only one in ten people actually see it through until the end of the year?
Part of this is due to the holiday cycle—eat, drink, lounge, repeat. Indulging in all the yummy things the winter season has to offer is part of what makes it so great. But, being out of your routine can spur overly ambitious new year’s resolutions, leaving you feeling overwhelmed and ready to throw in the towel early.
The extreme overcorrection that eventually leads to burnout might not be necessary after all. According to a study published in 2016, the average American only gains about one pound each holiday season.
To create a goal-oriented mindset, focus on setting intentions instead of resolutions this year; intentions to live a healthier life.
Healthy intentions for 2020
The intentions you set for 2020 are a personal choice. What does it look like for you to improve your mental and physical health from a day to day standpoint? To give you some ideas, we’ve listed simple yet effective goals for a healthier life.
I intend to…
- Cook more and eat out less
- Go to the doctor for a checkup
- Eat at least one vegetable with every meal
- Drink at least eight glasses of water every day
- Get in bed early enough to get 8 hours of sleep
- Put my phone up for one full hour each day
- Break a sweat every day
- Stretch nightly before bed
- Read at least one book a month
- Take the stairs every day instead of the elevator
- Drink green tea instead of coffee
- Schedule “me time” weekly
